Meg Mateo Ilasco launched her eponymous company in 2005 with products featuring bold graphics and non-traditional materials, as well as a preference for manual design and physical craft. Since then her work has received several awards including Print Magazine’s 2006 Regional Design Annual and Pasadena Museum of California Art’s 2007 Design Biennial.
Imbued with an anything-is-a-fertile-area-of-exploration outlook, Meg draws on inspiration from Calder mobiles and primary colors to ethnic influences and fabric. Her most recent collection, called “Utile,” shows her practical side with products that put a premium on utility and spareness.Though the pendulum may swing when it comes to finding inspiration, the common thread that runs through her work is a concept-based design approach.
In addition to being an illustrator and designer, Meg is also the author of several books including “Craft, Inc: Turn Your Creative Hobby into a Business” (Chronicle Books, September 2007).
